Dearest Members of our Beloved Vault... posted by Ben B at 00:00AM

Dearest Members of our Beloved Vault,

Your copious amount of online complain-ery notwithstanding, we still love you. We just feel that some things need to be made a little clearer for all of you paying your hard-stolen money on our digital wonderland.

Let it be known that SOME of the content featured on the Vault is NOT exclusive to the site and some is to be found nowhere else, but we will always try at every last opportunity to make cool video footage and content available there FIRST.

Secondly, some video available on the Vault will only be available at the exact moment we broadcast it. Real time (real talk?) happenings may be fleeting, but let it be known we intend on doing said broadcasts all the time for those of you who have jobs, kids, sleeping schedules and any other semblances of an actual life. The law of averages states that it is mathematically impossible for you to miss every last one of these.  You’ll see one...don’t worry.  Remember there is beauty to experiencing things that only happen once.  When you see a band play live at a venue, the footage played back later can sometimes do more to detract from the moment, sometimes it can immortalize it…that is why we’ll be doing both.

Some video content from the Vault will be archived so that it may exist in all of its eternal digital glory, for parents to point at nostalgically with their kids with wisdom in their voice and say “I remember back in 2009 when Jack White completely re-invented the internal combustion engine…at that same time, he somehow figured out this Vault thingy. And everyone complained their keyboards off, only to realize…”

Lest us not forget what can happen here and nowhere else.  Take for instance esteemed Vault subscriber #5832, Jasper P. Stinkhauser. Since joining the Vault he:

-received a pre-release download card for “I Cut Like a Buffalo”

-saw the Dead Weather perform live on a Vault video stream

-participated in two exclusive Vault contests both of which he lost because Jasper is a bit (whoo-whoo sound)

-was able to get into the Dead Weather show 5 minutes early and be front-row center

-finally got to see the quasi-legendary White Stripes 4th Street Fair performance video

-made three new friends in the Raconteurs chat room all of whom don’t

like “Top Yourself” as much as he does.

-found out that Third Man Records has a dedicated bananaphone line

None of this stuff would have been possible without the Vault. Remember, the Vault is your friend. The Vault only wants to love you, so give it some love back.

In totally unrelated news, we’ve also decided to alter our Tri-Color Vinyl Distribution Plan ™ ever-so-slightly. As much as we enjoy providing the eBay flippers of the Davidson County the means to gas up their jet-skis and down Jell-O shots on the reg, we also like to spread the love. From here on out (which is, until we decide to change it again) any Third Man title issued on the convenient Tri-Color format will have 50 copies of said Tri-Color randomly inserted into mail orders of that title. So if you place an order for Mildred’s hypothetical “Mice (Revisited)” 7-inch on our reputable website, you automatically have a chance at getting that title as a Tri-Color.  We will still continue to sell 100 copies at our Nashville storefront operation as well.

Sincerely,

Third Man Records Research and Development Dept.

Blue Series 45 posted by Ben B at 00:00AM

Dan Sartain – Blue Series 45.

Dan Sartain. He’s an enigma. An elusive mystery wrapped in a puzzle, a man of many names. But Weather you know him as The Replacement Man, The Birmingham Barber, or Danny ‘The White Mike Tyson’, Dan Sartain has scored K.O. After K.O. Since 2001 with a string of albums that are some of our favorites since this whole new Millennium thing started...
We’re really excited to announce Third Man will be releasing this summer a Jack White produced Blue Series Dan Sartain 45. Sartain will probably be the only artist on Third Man Records to have had two of our employees (Swank and Blackwell) play drums for him at one time or another. Needless to say he’s one of our favorite musicians out there, he’s an all around great guy and we’re excited to be working with him. Maybe he’ll let us play drums...
